What do we teach?

Age Range 9 - 99

From a purely technique perspective, our special needs students learn the same skills as everyone else. The only difference is that they learn at their own pace with only some skills needing to be adapted specifically to cater to their needs ie: wheelchairs.

What we actually teach is a world-first technique, our system is designed to be fully inclusive and was originally aimed at those with disabilities to help improve their quality of life. Some of the benefits of our system include but aren’t limited to; increased muscle tone, mobility and general fitness increased proprioception and coordination, getting used to people being inside your personal space, eye contact, improved communication and socialisation (both in a non-verbal and verbal manner), resilience and perseverance, increased self-awareness and getting them comfortable with schedule variation and spontaneity. We also teach all of our students how to trust their subconscious mind and zone out, allowing muscle memory to take over (think meditation) which is an important skill to have, especially for those with overactive brains ie: ADHD.

Our instructors are well versed on how to teach those with disabilities and are trained to teach to a variety of learning styles even in group settings as we aim to make all our classes feel as inclusive and mainstream as possible.

We have worked with a vast variety of disabilities including but not limited to; Down Syndrome, stroke survivors, paraplegia, blind, deaf, cerebral palsy, autistic spectrum disorder, ADHD, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and other connective tissue disorders, global developmental delay, epilepsy, traumatic brain injuries, depression, anxiety and other mental health conditions.

How do you access us? Can I use NDIS?

The answer is YES! However, how you go about accessing us depends on what style of plan you are under.

Self managed: If you are self managed it’s easy! All you need is a receipt (we can do invoices if required.) Then, in your NDIS portal under payment requests, you just add the date of the class and how much it was, then we come under the category of social community and civic participation.

Plan Managed: If you are plan managed it is ultimately up to your provider, however generally we have no problems with students claiming lessons through their providers.

You can access us through the following NDIS lines:

04 - Access community Social

or

09 - Life Transition Planning Incl. Mentoring Peer Support And Indiv Skill Dev

We are able to provide a letter of what exactly we do and how it aligns with your goals in your NDIS plan, this usually clears up any misunderstandings on the providers side of things.

Is theatre combat suitable for me?

  • Can you hold a lightsaber in an upright position and maintain movement for at least 5 minutes?

  • Can you follow basic instruction?

  • Are you over the age of 9?

If the answer to all of these is yes, come on down!
